Relieving Stress For Your Cystic Acne

By Jon Chamberlain

As some of you are aware, there is a strong correlation between your mind and your physical body. In fact there are known physical medical conditions caused by psychological issues alone.

Studies and anecdotal stories have also found a link between a person's state of mind and their acne. The more stress they have, the more chance they get acne. Obviously this is dependent on the person but generally, people that are more susceptible to acne will see this link.

Personally, the worst acne I had was when I was stressed. Ironically, getting acne made me stressed even more and then this extra stress made my acne worse. This awful cycle can then be very hard to break out of.

Medical professionals can't fully explain just how stress and anxiety causes acne. But what they believe is that stress and anxiety no longer inhibits the cells that make sebum. In other words, there is absolutely nothing to stop sebum production when you find yourself under stress. This can then lead to your skin pores blocking up. Acne bacteria then moves in and feeds off of the sebum. When harmful bacteria multiplies and irritates your body, a defensive response is initiated which then causes the inflammation and cystic acne.

In this situation, it is a good idea to ease stress somehow. Below are a few things you could try.

Meditating - this is a great way to relax your body and mind

Physical exercise - this releases chemicals in your body that makes you feel good

Sex - this makes you feel good

Socialising - going out and meeting people is a fun way to relax

Hobbies - do something you love or are passionate about!

Laughter - the old phrase, laughter is the best cure stands true

Try to avoid being alone with just your thoughts when you are stressed. Being around people automatically puts you in a better mood. If you can't be with people, do something to keep your mind and body busy.

Following these tips on stress relief may help in your cystic acne breakouts. The state of your mind is a powerful thing that has full control of your body so if you do suffer from breakouts regardless of whether it is caused by stress, ensure any bad thoughts about your acne is treated as part of any cystic acne treatment.
