People that suffer from acne may find them a burden and to some extent an embarrassment. Some people hold the notion that they cannot do something about the condition, but this is not so. One way is to wash the face twice daily with soap. There are sulfur based soaps that are specifically designed for acne. The first washing should be in the morning when one is just coming from the bed and at night just before one gets to bed. The washing should be done in a gentle manner without the use of rough clothes. Over washing stimulates production of sebum that increases the swellings.

When the membranes are ruptured, there is every likelihood that rate of infection is increased. Pillows and bedsheets also need regular cleaning because they have oils on them that may encourage infections.

A much as possible, one should eat foods rich in zinc. The element produces antibacterial agents that are good for the skin. Zinc deficiency leads to breakouts. For those that are able to get honey, applying it on the face once or twice a week would be effective too. It has antibacterial qualities and is also gentle on the skin.
