How To Get Control Of Your Acne

By Steve Jones

Acne is an embarrassing and even, irritating skin condition. While typically associated with teenagers, it can, in fact, strike at many ages. This article contains some advice that can help you or someone you know, deal with acne. Knowledge is power and by the time you finish reading this article, you'll be better prepared to take good care of your skin.

Smoking is not only dangerous to your general health, but has also been linked to causing damaged skin and increased effects of acne. Quitting smoking can be one of the best things you can do to get rid of acne and improve your overall health. There are many tools and strategies you can find to help you start quitting today.

Make sure you are getting enough zinc in your diet if you have acne. Lack of zinc can sometimes lead to acne related problems. Do not, however, just go buy zinc and begin taking it as taking too much zinc can lead to other health problems. Making sure you get the recommended daily dose is sufficient.

If you experience a lot of acne outbreaks near your mouth, you should stop using whitening toothpastes or other tooth-whitening products. The chemicals used for whitening teeth can irritate the skin and make it vulnerable to acne infection. Whitening toothpaste also contains abrasives that can damage the skin, accelerating the spread of acne.

Sweat can actually be beneficial in the treatment of acne. It pushes the toxins out of your body that would otherwise cause more acne. Do not let the sweat sit on your skin however, it will clog your pores and cause an acne breakout that you will have to treat.

A great tip that can prevent you from getting acne is to wash your keyboard and mouse every now and then. Your hands are always touching these gadgets, which means a lot of bacteria gets on them. You don't want this bacteria to reach your face so you should wash them when you can.

If you have spare eggs lying around the house and are affected with whiteheads or blackheads, form an egg white mask to reduce the bacteria on your face and improve your acne. This mask also acts as an exfoliator, to wipe away dry skin cells and reveal your natural glow.

Carrots are great for your skin. Carrots have natural vitamin A. Vitamin A can help prevent acne and strengthen your skin. Being deficient in vitamin A can cause acne. Taking a multivitamin is a good idea for health and for the health of your skin and adding extra carrots to your diet can help as well.

To help reduce your acne, eat fewer dairy products and less red meat. These foods are difficult for the body to digest, and as a result limit the body's ability to dispose of waste products efficiently. Excess waste is then released through the skin, causing acne. A mild intolerance to dairy can also lead to acne.

Sometimes no matter what you do you still have that stubborn acne that just won't go away, even when washing your face daily and using the right face washes. Well, there are other factors in getting rid of acne and maintaining a healthy face. Washing your pillow cases can help dramatically when it comes to acne. Dirt and oils from your face that you may have missed can collect on the fabric, so it is always good to wash your pillow cases, since that's where you face rests for hours at a time.

Be gentle with your skin. Don't use harsh scrubbing motions when cleaning your face or over-use chemical treatments. You'll simply damage and dry out your skin worse than ever. The additional dry skin will cause your face to produce extra oil, leading to more breakouts and acne issues on top of the damage you've caused.

What you put on your hair is just as important as what you put on your face during a breakout. If you use fragances and harsh chemicals on your hair, they may drip onto your face which can cause your skin pores to be blocked. You should wash your hair often so that you don't have oily hair touching your face and adding oil to it. If you are having an outbreak, try to keep your hair pulled back.

Regular exercise can be helpful when you're dealing with re-occurring acne problems. Exercise is a great way to release toxins, cleanse the pores (through sweating), and it also helps to relieve stress (which some believe contributes to acne). Stick to natural cotton exercise gear however, as synthetics can trap sweat and bacteria.

If you are going to use any treatments for acne, always remember to consult a dermatologist before that. Sometimes people are hasty when trying to clear it up so they try many products. That is not a good idea because instead of making it better it can actually make things worse.
